Stowe Privacy Policy

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how Stowe Financial Corp. (“Stowe,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, retains, and protects personal information when you use Stowe, including our iOS mobile application, website at joinstowe.com, AI-powered tools, account features, support services, and related services (collectively, the “Service”).

Stowe is intended for adults who are at least 18 years old and located in Canada or the United States. The Service is not intended for minors.

2. Personal information we collect

The personal information we collect depends on how you use the Service. It may include the following categories:

Questions, prompts, messages, uploaded or manually entered information, feedback, survey responses, support requests, and other content you provide.

Device and usage information

Device type, operating system, app version, IP address, approximate location inferred from IP address, identifiers, logs, crash reports, diagnostics, feature usage, interactions, and analytics events.

AI interaction information

Prompts, questions, relevant financial context, generated outputs, and related metadata needed to provide AI-powered features.

Marketing and referral information

Referral codes, campaign source, offer eligibility, communications, and engagement with emails, notifications, or ads.

We do not intentionally collect precise device-level location, health information, or information from minors. Please do not provide sensitive information unless it is necessary for your use of the Service.

3. Sources of personal information

  • You, when you create an account, use the Service, ask questions, enter information, contact support, or provide feedback.

  • Connected financial institutions and data providers, such as Plaid, when you choose to connect accounts.

  • Apple, for App Store subscription status, purchase, renewal, cancellation, and refund information.

  • Service providers, such as analytics, hosting, security, customer support, AI, communications, and payment or business operations providers.

  • Household members, when they invite you, join your household, share information, or interact with shared features.

  • Marketing, referral, and attribution partners, when you interact with campaigns, links, or referrals.

4. How we use personal information

  • Provide, operate, maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the Service.

  • Create and manage accounts, authentication, subscriptions, free trials, billing status, and customer support.

  • Connect financial accounts and retrieve, normalize, categorize, analyze, and display financial information.

  • Identify bills, subscriptions, recurring payments, transfers, refunds, unusual spending, spending changes, possible overpayments, and savings opportunities.

  • Provide AI-powered features, including answers, summaries, explanations, categorization, insights, and suggested next steps.

  • Support household features, shared bills, joint goals, and shared views according to your settings.

  • Personalize content, reminders, insights, comparisons, benchmarks, and recommendations.

  • Send service communications, security alerts, transactional messages, product updates, trial reminders, renewal information, and support responses.

  • Send marketing communications where permitted by law and allow you to manage communication preferences.

  • Measure usage, debug errors, improve performance, develop new features, and conduct analytics and research.

  • Protect against fraud, abuse, security incidents, unauthorized access, and violations of our Terms.

  • Comply with legal obligations, enforce agreements, resolve disputes, and protect rights, safety, and property.

5. AI-powered features and third-party AI providers

Stowe may use third-party AI providers, including OpenAI and Google Gemini, to provide AI-powered features. To generate useful outputs, we may send prompts, questions, transaction details, account context, categories, goals, and other relevant information to these providers.

We do not permit third-party AI providers to use Stowe user data to train their models. Some providers may retain limited data for security, abuse monitoring, legal compliance, or service operations, in accordance with their agreements with us.  We may use de-identified, aggregated, or anonymized information internally to improve, evaluate, and develop our systems and features.

AI outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, or not suitable for your circumstances. Please review outputs carefully before relying on them.

6. How we disclose personal information

We may disclose personal information to the following categories of recipients:

  • Financial account connectivity providers, including Plaid, when you choose to connect accounts or use account-linking features.

  • Apple and App Store-related service providers for subscription status, purchase validation, free trial, cancellation, refund, and related account operations.

  • Stripe, if used for payment, billing, tax, fraud prevention, business operations, or other payment-related services outside or alongside Apple billing.

  • Household members or invited users, according to the household features and sharing settings you choose.

  • Professional advisors, insurers, auditors, legal counsel, and similar parties where reasonably necessary for business operations, compliance, risk management, or legal matters.

  • Authorities, regulators, courts, or other parties when we believe disclosure is required or permitted by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, security, or property.

  • Parties involved in a business transaction, such as a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets.

We do not sell personal information for money. We may use analytics, attribution, or advertising technologies that could be considered “sharing” or “targeted advertising” under some U.S. state privacy laws. Where required, we will provide applicable choices or opt-out mechanisms.

7. Financial data and Plaid

When you connect a financial account, you may be directed to Plaid or another financial account connectivity provider. Plaid may collect login credentials or other information needed to connect your account. Stowe does not receive your financial institution password. We receive financial data and account metadata needed to provide the Service.

Your use of account-linking features may be subject to Plaid’s terms and privacy policy, as well as the terms and policies of your financial institution.

8. App Store subscriptions and payments

Stowe is available through the Apple App Store. Apple processes App Store purchases and subscriptions. We may receive subscription status, product identifier, transaction identifier, renewal, cancellation, free trial, refund, and related information from Apple. We do not receive your full payment card number from Apple for App Store purchases.

If we use Stripe for certain payment, billing, tax, fraud prevention, or business operations, Stripe may process payment-related information according to its own terms and privacy policy.

9. Cookies, analytics, and similar technologies

Our website and Service may use cookies, pixels, SDKs, local storage, device identifiers, and similar technologies to operate the Service, remember preferences, measure usage, improve performance, diagnose issues, prevent fraud, support marketing, and understand how users find and use Stowe.

You may be able to control cookies through your browser or device settings. Disabling certain technologies may affect functionality.

10. Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, restrict, or object to certain processing of your personal information, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. You may also have the right to appeal a decision we make about a privacy request.

To make a privacy request, contact us at support@joinstowe.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding. We will respond as required by applicable law.

You can also manage certain information and settings in the Service, disconnect financial accounts, manage notifications, and cancel your App Store subscription through your Apple ID subscription settings.

11. California and U.S. state privacy disclosures

If you are a resident of California or another U.S. state with an applicable consumer privacy law, the following additional disclosures may apply, subject to legal thresholds and exemptions.

  • Categories collected: We may collect the categories described in Section 2 above, including identifiers, customer records information, commercial information, internet or network activity, geolocation inferred from IP address, inferences, and sensitive personal information such as financial account information where applicable.

  • Purposes: We use these categories for the purposes described in Section 4 above.

  • Disclosure: We disclose these categories to the recipients described in Section 6 above.

  • Sale or sharing: We do not sell personal information for money. Some analytics, attribution, or advertising activities may be considered “sharing” or “targeted advertising” under certain laws. Where required, you may opt out.

  • Sensitive personal information: We use sensitive personal information only as reasonably necessary to provide the Service, protect security, comply with law, or for other permitted purposes.

  • Rights: Subject to applicable law, you may request to know, access, delete, correct, obtain a portable copy, opt out of sale or sharing or targeted advertising, limit certain uses of sensitive personal information, and not be discriminated against for exercising privacy rights.

12. Canadian privacy disclosures

For users in Canada, we collect, use, and disclose personal information for identified purposes, with consent where required, and only as permitted by applicable Canadian privacy laws. You may request access to or correction of your personal information, subject to legal exceptions. You may also withdraw consent to certain processing, although this may limit your ability to use parts of the Service.

13. Data retention

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service, maintain your account, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, prevent fraud and abuse, maintain security, support business records, and improve the Service.

If you delete your account, we will delete or de-identify personal information associated with your account within a reasonable period, unless we need to retain it for legal, security, fraud prevention, tax, accounting, backup, dispute resolution, or legitimate business purposes. Backups and logs may persist for a limited period before being deleted in the normal course.

We may retain de-identified, aggregated, or anonymized information that no longer reasonably identifies you.

14. Security

We employ multiple measures to protect your data to the fullest extent possible. These measures include administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information, taking into account the sensitivity of the information we process. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your device, credentials, and account access.

15. International transfers

Stowe is based in Canada and uses service providers that may process personal information in Canada, the United States, and other jurisdictions. Personal information may be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions, including lawful access by courts, law enforcement, regulators, or government authorities.

16. Communications and notifications

We may send you service-related emails, push notifications, in-app messages, and other communications, including security alerts, account updates, support messages, trial reminders, subscription information, and product notices. You may be able to manage certain communications through your device, app, or email settings. Some service communications are necessary and cannot be opted out of while you maintain an account.

17. Children

The Service is not intended for minors. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that a minor has provided personal information, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

18. Third-party links and services

The Service may link to third-party websites, apps, products, financial institutions, providers, or offers. Third parties have their own terms and privacy practices. We are not responsible for third-party privacy practices, security, content, products, or services.

19. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will take reasonable steps to notify you, such as by updating the “Effective” date, providing in-app notice, sending an email, or using another reasonable method. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date means you acknowledge the updated Privacy Policy.
